The Next Move Program believes that all students should have the opportunity to make informed choices about their future.  We also believe that personal experiences, such as internships in a chosen career field and a meaningful relationship with a career mentor, can have a lasting impact on a student’s personal and professional journey.

Application Process

​Intro to Internship consists of an online application, independent research and reflection, self-evaluation, professionalism workshops, and an interview.  After completing the below expectations, a student earns eligibility for internship placement in the community as well as a .5 occupational education credit.

Timeline of Expectations​

• Step 1:  Apply Online: Apply now to be part of our internship cohort.
• Step 2:  Meet your NEXT MOVE Coach to receive your Intro to Internship Workbook.
• Step 3:  Complete each of these assignments in the Workbook

Once all of the above is completed, you are eligible to be placed as an intern and have earned a 0.5 Occupational credit.

Jobs 253 offers TPS high school students the opportunity to gain meaningful work experience through 40+ hours of job training and experience, for which students can earn up to a $500 stipend (per experience)! Worksite Learning (WSL) is an opportunity for students who are employed and gaining valuable work experience to receive credit toward graduation while earning money. WSL is available to any student who is employed and over the age of 16 in all our high schools. This is a great opportunity to get ahead on credits or to make up credits. For every 180 hours worked between now and graduation students will get a .5 credit, including summer!

Our Elementary Sports Coaching Internships provide Tacoma High School students with valuable responsibilities and experience in the sports world, while allowing students ages 16 years and up to earn $500 for their efforts. This is a great way to get involved in the community and to get your name known at a young age!

Work-Based Learning (WBL) and Worksite Learning (WSL) are strategies that offer students hands-on career exploration and application of CTE knowledge, bridging the gap between education and careers. These approaches are particularly advantageous for students from low-income backgrounds and those lacking career exposure and networks. Additionally, students can earn high school credits for their work hours, with .5 credits awarded for every 180 hours in Worksite Learning.
